What is a hero?

Who is a hero?

We’ve probably all been asked this question at least once before in our lives.

Our answers usually entail mothers, fathers, fire-fighters, police-men, doctors, teachers,

Our answers usually stem from the fact that these individuals dedicate their lives to helping, healing, and hearing people. 

Hearing their stories,

Healing their wounds, 

Helping them learn and love and live their lives.

So what makes someone a hero?

Strength? Power? Absolutely. 

But what about kindness.. resiliency.. Hope?

In my personal opinion a hero is someone who has nothing but gives everything. 

A hero is someone who embodies strength even after coming face to face with weakness. 

Someone who would rather help better the world than themselves. 

A person who values honesty and equality over power and status.

A hero is someone who manifests hope and compassion not only for him/herself but for everyone around her.

A hero finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles that exist to defy her. 

A true hero isn't measured by the size of her strength, but by the strength of her heart.  

So what makes a hero?

A hero is made when someone, anyone, voluntarily walks into the dark with the drive, passion, and intent on making it light.

Someone who recognizes the need for change and stops at nothing to create it. 

Someone who steps up when so many others step down. 

Someone who continues when it would be so much easier to turn around.

We can all be heroes’ dedicated to hearing, helping, and healing..

 if we would just listen to the pain and sorrow of those suffering,

understand the power in togetherness and love, and re- define what it truly means to be a hero. Hard times don’t create heroes. It is during the hard times when the ‘hero’ within us is revealed. Remember, in the middle of difficulty and uncertainty, lies opportunity and when everyone wants to be the sun to brighten up someone’s life,

Be the moon. Shine on their darkest hour 

And remind them that even the stars need darkness to shine,
